Fun Events in St. Louis This Summer

St. Louis is a family-friendly city with lots of activities to enjoy. To help you get the most out of your summer days, our experts compiled a guide to fun events in St. Louis. From taking in the local cuisine to going on a bike ride through the city, there is something for everyone.

The Muny | June 12 – August 20, 2023

What began as a grassy spot between two oak trees in 1913 has grown into the nation’s oldest and largest outdoor musical theatre. Shows in The Muny’s 105th Season include:

  • Beautiful: The Carole King Musical from June 12 – 18,
  • Disney’s Beauty and the Beast from June 22 – 30,
  • Chess from July 5 – 11,
  • West Side Story from July 15 – 21,
  • Little Shop of Horrors from July 25 – 31,
  • Rent from August 4 – 10,
  • and Sister Act from August 14 – 20.

Tickets are on sale now, and the last 9 rows of The Muny are always free to the public. Come early, as these free seats are first come, first served! The gates open at 7 pm each evening.

Art Hill Film Series | July 14 – 28, 2023

For three summer Fridays, the Saint Louis Art Museum is hosting the Art Hill Film Series, a St. Louis tradition in which the museum’s front lawn is transformed into the city’s largest cinema! This free, non-ticketed event will feature:

  • Top Gun: Maverick on July 14,
  • Akeelah and the Bee on July 21,
  • and School of Rock on July 28.

The party starts at 6 pm with music, food trucks, and the SLAM events bar, and the feature film will begin at 9 pm.

Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase | July 21 – 30, 2023

The Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase is the area’s primary venue for films made by local artists! Films shown were shot in the St. Louis region or were written, directed, or produced by St. Louis-area residents. The screenings will be held July 21 – 23 and July 28 – 30, and the awards presentation will be on the evening of July 30.

In this year’s showcase, 91 films are spread across 17 film programs, including animated, documentary, experimental, fiction, and narrative shorts. Tickets for the 23rd annual showcase are on sale now!

Blues at the Arch | August 11 – 13, 2023

The Gateway Arch Park Foundation is hosting its 8th annual Blues at the Arch, a celebration that pays tribute to St. Louis’ storied blues history and showcases the talents of national and local artists!

Take in the free concerts on Friday, August 11, and Saturday, August 12, and then enjoy a ticketed brunch on Sunday, August 13, to cap off the weekend.

Grub and Groove | August 12, 2023

Connect with neighbors and friends at the free Grub & Groove event in Francis Park on Saturday, August 12, open from 2 pm – 10 pm!

Listen to some of St. Louis’ finest musicians and savor food and drinks from exceptional local restaurants. They’ll have drinks from 4 Hands Brewing Company and Rockwell Beer Co. Are you coming with the kids? Head over to the Kids Zone, an area full of fun activities.

Moonlight Ramble | August 26, 2023

Grab your bicycle and take a leisurely ride under the glow of the full moon at the 59th annual Moonlight Ramble! Registration for the event is now open. At the longest-running nighttime bike ride in the US, you’ll enjoy:

  • a bike ride through the closed streets of St. Louis,
  • a street festival with entertainment,
  • food and drink vendors,
  • a commemorative glow-in-the-dark t-shirt,
  • and an after-ride party with snacks and drinks.

Festival of Nations | August 27 – 28, 2023

Originating in 1934, the Festival of Nations is a celebration of music, flavors, art, and culture worldwide. Join the two-day event attended by more than 100,000 people from August 26 – 27 in Tower Grove Park. There will be food and drinks from around the world, music spanning genres, and opportunities to buy international and local arts and goods!

Whitaker Music Festival | May 31 – August 2, 2023

Grab your picnic blanket and lawn chairs. The free Whitaker Music Festival is back at the Missouri Botanical Garden on Wednesdays from May 31 to August 2! Entry starts at 5 pm, and the music starts at 7; the last entry is at 8:15. While they’ll have food and drinks on-site available for purchase, you’re welcome to bring your own food and drinks in picnic baskets or coolers.

Japanese Festival | September 2 – 4, 2023

The Missouri Botanical Garden is hosting its 47th annual Japanese Festival, one of the largest and longest-running festivals of its kind in the US, over Labor Day weekend. The doors open at 9 am on September 2 – 4. There will be taiko drumming, bon odori festival dancing, martial arts, candlelight walks in the Japanese Garden, and more!

Schlafly Art Outside Festival | September 8 – 10, 2023

Each year, the Schlafly Art Outside Festival features over 60 local artists. Join the 19th annual festivities, which aim to raise awareness and appreciation of art, in Maplewood at Schlafly Bottleworks. From September 8 – 10, there will be an array of mediums, including acrylic, ceramics, glass, jewelry, metalwork, oil, photography, watercolor, woodworking, and much more!

Saint Louis Art Fair | September 8 – 10, 2023

Stroll through downtown Clayton and take in the artwork at the 30th annual Saint Louis Art Fair! The 2023 event will be from September 8 – 10. As you make your way from one booth to the next, you can enjoy live entertainment by local talent and food from St. Louis-area restaurants. Plus, with arts and crafts projects, kids will have the opportunity to explore their creativity and learn about the arts.

Music at the Intersection | September 9 – 10, 2023

Music at the Intersection is returning for its 3rd year with a special celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. Over the September 9 – 10 weekend, more than 50 national, regional, and local artists will perform across four stages at the Grand Center Arts District. Come and listen to the diverse and decades-spanning artist lineup featuring artists from the 1970s to today. Tickets are on sale now for Saturday, Sunday, and weekend passes.
